Fabulous portrait Matt. So close. This is the first time I have seen a photo of a static hummingbird. I imagine this is quite an achievement.

@Helen: Thanks!
Rather a poke in the eye to someone who disparaged my efforts, then insisted that hummingbirds were difficult to capture.
You and the Karmic circle have assured me that I'm on the correct path.
I doubt I will ever top JackGirl . I can only hope that Mother Nature will hug me half as hard as her.
Fantastic capture! These little things can be difficult to catch even while hovering. Getting a wonderful static image is a great testament to your determination and patience.

@Sylvester: Thanks.
Thanks again for digging about.
Welcome to Am3.
I love Hummingbirds. We used to live in an area referred to as Hummingbird Hill because there were so many. Literally hundreds at any given time of the day. I don't know how in the world you captured this one in such a still position.

@Sherri: Such a welcome and wonderful comment. Thank you.
It is our habit where I live, to quietly enjoy the newspaper with cats in the morning. This bird seemed to be one of many fledglings who took wing on the same day. (I guess we missed the announcement of "Fledging Day".) Suddenly, half a dozen hummingbirds were clicking and humming about the house. Although they allowed me to approach, sadly none alighted on my arms.
I am still not Grizzly Adams. Perhaps I should stop brushing my teeth.
Cheers.
