@Viewfinder: Thanks. The dead tree in which the fledglings are perched is anchored next to the bank of a small lake. There is a steep drop of about 20 vertical feet from my blind to to water. In the barn swallows' world, I am essentially 20 feet up the tree, on the non-food side of the world. They are much more concerned with the bugs flitting about the pond's surface, and I am (obviously) screened by vegetation. 400mm of lens also helps.
