Feigning KilldeerPosted by Matt Trujillo Photography (Portland, United States) on 18 April 2007 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. Charádrius vocíferus (a type of plover) pretends to be injured when a potential threat approaches the nest. (A behavior known as "feigning".) When I took this shot, I had no idea, so it appeared the bird was performing a romantic dance for the coypu (Myocastor coypus) on the left.
