This tree's roots were exposed through years of one teacher's efforts to instill in her grade school classes an understanding of, and respect for nature.
Each year she brought her class on a field trip to this area to dig and learn about nature.
Following years of such abuse, the life-span of the tree has been significantly reduced.
Savor the irony.
